The game starts in a post-apocalyptic realm where civilization was destroyed by a paranormal disaster called Hollows. Hollows are like extra-dimensional spaces that spread over the cities. Only one city, the New Eridu, has escaped the wrath of Hollows. 

By taking a material known as Ether from the Hollows and using it as a powerful energy source, people in New Eridu have been able to live. To gain resources and solve the mysteries, players take on the role of a “Proxy,” assisting others through the dangerous Hollows. 

Proxies are hired guides who assist the Hollow Raiders. Proxies operate outside the law and are not recognized by the New Eridu City Administration as an investigative association. Most of the gameplay surrounds the missions of two proxies, Belle and Wise, where the players step into their roles to win missions.
