What’s New In Witcher 4? Insights From The Reveal Trailer

The reveal trailer has included various exciting details in its 6-minute duration, almost triple the length of regular trailers. The obvious differences are the new protagonist and the enhanced graphics. Let’s get into the details:

  • New Protagonist: The Witcher 3 protagonist, Geralt of Rivia, adopted a child as his daughter when she was saved by him from a giant centipede. The child, Ciri, considers Geralt as her mentor and she learns witchcraft from him. Ciri will be the main protagonist of Witcher 4. The trailer suggests that Ciri will take a paid job the fight the evil inside a cave of no return.
  • The New Sword: We see a silver sword in the hands of Ciri, an important weapon for monster hunting. Since various creatures are not immune to silver, this will give Ciri an advantage. Also, she is equipped with various other tools like the potion.
  • The Potion: Ciri’s potion will give her clear vision and enhanced auditory sensations, increasing focus and clarity. She will be able to see better in fog and differentiate between the sounds she hears. As a mutant, she will be immune to the potion, unlike human beings who consider it as a poison.
  • The Spells: In Witcher 3, we can see that Ciri has some extra powers when Geralt can cast very basic spells. We will see more of it in Witcher 4, where Ciri will be able to use the powers of her special sorcery. As a mutant, she can become a bridge between the sorcerer world and the witcher world.
  • The Sight & Sound: CD Projekt Red has again collaborated with P.T. Adamczyk, the famous video games and motion picture composer. He has the ability to step out into a different zone as evident in the futuristic Cyberpunk and the ancient Witcher. The visual is expected to bring a brand new sensory experience as they work on an unreleased graphics processor from Nvidia.

Expected Release Date Of Witcher 4

There was a gap of 7 years between the announcement and the release of CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077, making the fans mad. If the developer follows the same release timeline, we will see Witcher 4 in 2031. However, the devs are focused solely on this game unlike the making of 2077 in the middle of Witcher 3’s production.

According to the developers, technological advancements have enabled them to work within the expected time. The latest Nvidia GPU, along with the Unreal Engine 5, will give a timely output that has the desired quality. We can probably see Witcher 4 releasing in 2027 or as early as late 2026.

Previous Witcher Releases

Starting from 2007’s first game, the series has around three main games, two expansion packs, and seven spin-offs as of now. With the addition of this game, we will have four standalone games. This is the list of all the games:

  • The Witcher: Directed by Jacek Brzeziński, the game was released on October 26th, 2007. The game got huge attention before its release primarily because of its adaptation of the fantasy novel series The Witcher by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. It was well received by the critics and the gamers.
  • The Witcher 2: After the success of Witcher, the 2nd part “Assassins of Kings” was released in 2015, gaining rave reviews. Directed by Adam Badowski, it took alchemy and witchcraft to new heights with its exciting storyline, taking references from Polish history and Slavic mythology.
  • The Witcher 3: The 3rd part “Wild Hunt” was released in 2015 and later the expansion packs “Hearts of Stone” and “Blood and Wine” were added. It is based on the folktales of Pan Twardowski, a sorcerer in Polish literature.
  • Spin-Offs: The latest spinoff “Project Solaris” is expected to arrive in 2026. Other spin-offs are The Witcher: Crimson Trail (2007), The Witcher Adventure Game (2014), The Witcher Battle Arena (2015), Gwent: The Witcher Card Game (2018), Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales (2018), The Witcher: Monster Slayer (2021), and Roach Race (2022).

Conclusion

Previous Witcher games in the series were all highly successful, getting praise from critics and generating a global fan following. We can expect the same success to happen with The Witcher 4. More details regarding the plot and gameplay are not yet revealed by the developers. Also, the release date is unclear.

We hope that more updates will arrive soon. At present, the developers have revealed a bug-free update to Cyberpunk 2077, concluding their work on other games and navigating their full focus and energy on Witcher 4.
