Aave is a decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol that has transformed the world of cryptocurrency lending and borrowing. The name of this protocol was ETHLend under Stani Kulechov and it was launched in 2017.

What is an AAVE token?
The AAVE is the native cryptocurrency of the Aave protocol. This token was introduced in October 2020 when Aave replaced its old token LEND through a migration process. The AAVE token has multiple purposes within the Aave ecosystem.

Token holders swapped their 100 LEND from 1 AAVE massively decreasing the supply from 1.3 billion LEND to 13 million AAVE tokens. AAVE has been allocated in the following way:

- 20% has been given to user experience development
- 20% allocated to management and legal
- 20% has been given to promotions and marketing
- And remaining 10% has been allocated to miscellaneous costs
